It is possible to complete a clinical internship at the KfN. It can be recognised as part of a medical university course.
Minimum duration of the internship is 3 weeks.
Minimum age of the intern: 16 years
The areas of responsibility for interns are as follows:
The interns report to the head nurse. He allocates interns to different wards and therefore delegates the authority to give directives and the supervision of the interns to the employees of this ward, especially to the ward head nurse.
1. Cleaning tasks
Cleaning of the bedside table and paying attention to tidiness in the patient room
Preparing the room for a new patient
Assistance in tidying the function rooms, in cupboards and in the entire ward
Assistance in preparing patient beds and bedside tables
Refilling of care products
2. Jobs in nursing
Polite, friendly treatment of patients and staff
Assistance in body, dental and nail care
Assistance during bedding and positioning
Assistance in mobilisation of patients, e.g. helping to stand up, guiding, escorting
Distributing food and drink
Making tea (medicinal teas after instruction)
Administering of food and drink for patients without dysphagia
Driving or escorting patients to examinations
Measuring temperature, heat rate and blood pressure
Weighing and measuring patients
Rubs after instruction
3. After instruction by qualified nurse
Packs and poultices
Balm dressing and rubs
Distributing corn flower bags
Observing and maybe helping during change of bandage
Observing the preparation of medicines, injections, infusions
Attending the ward round once or twice (exception)
Assistance in preparing enemas; observing administration

5. Special notes
Interns must not be given tasks where they could come in contact with body fluids.
Interns must not clean contaminated objects (no preparation of instruments, cupping glasses, etc.)
Interns must be tasked with the preparation of disinfectant solutions.
Interns are bound to professional confidentiality in the same way as all other staff of the hospital.
That means: Individuals disclosing secrets, informing friends or relatives e.g. about patients and their illnesses can expect criminal prosecution.
The hygiene regulations applicable in the hospital also apply to interns. Details can be found in the hygiene guidelines handed out to each intern.
Minimum duration of internship: 3 weeks
The weekly hours of work are 38.5 hrs as is currently applicable in the public sector.
Interns always work the early shift: Start: 6.30 am, end: 14.42
Work at weekends and public holidays will occur. Attention: Interns under the age of 18 years are only allowed to work until noon on 24/12 and are not allowed to work on 25/12, Easter Sunday and 1st may. Additionally, interns under the age of 17 years are not allowed to work on Sundays.
A break of 30 min is taken in agreement with the team. Attention: Interns under the age of 18 years must take 2 x half an hour as break
Work uniform is handed out to interns free of charge.
A doctor's note stating the suitability for this internship is required at the start of the internship. Possible costs are paid by the intern.
